Heat Well or Roller Not Heating

Hot-holding equipment is simple: a control, an element, and the wiring between them. When one of the three fails, the fix is usually fast. From cases in our own service history.

The Facts

Heat Well Not Heating

What It Usually Is

  • Thermostat failed: the well never turns on, or cycles on and off constantly.
  • Burned wires and terminals at the thermostat or element: years of heat cook the insulation and the connection fails.
  • Element open: the control clicks, the light comes on, nothing gets hot.
  • Power switch or breaker: the least likely, and the first thing to check.

Check This First

  • Does the indicator light come on when you turn the knob?
  • Is the well dry? Wet wells without water can burn out elements and trip limits.
  • With power off, look for browned insulation at the terminals behind the control panel.
  • Are other wells or units on the same circuit working?

When To Call

  • No heat with the light on.
  • The unit cycles rapidly or will not hold temperature.
  • You smell hot insulation from behind the control.

What the Repair Usually Costs

Thermostats, elements, and rewiring on hot-holding equipment are service-call-level repairs. We quote the number on site.

The diagnostic visit turns that range into a number for your unit, and you approve the number before any repair happens.

Common Questions

Heat Well Not Heating FAQ

Can you fix it during service?

Often yes, since the parts are small and common. Text the make and what it is doing to 601-337-1069.

Why do the wires burn?

Heat, moisture, and time. Terminals near an element see constant heat, and a slightly loose spade connection builds resistance until it cooks itself.

Is it worth repairing a cheap unit?

For a single roller grill, sometimes not, and we will say so. For a serving line, almost always.
