What It Usually Is

F3 fuse on the output board blown: no outputs, so the drive never powers up and the control times out on SPI. Check this before any harness work.
Drain valve motor shorted: a coin or debris under the flapper kept the valve from seating, the motor sat energized fighting it, burned, and took the fuse with it.
Drive power contactor not pulling in because it has no coil voltage, which traces back to the same fuse.
Loose or corroded SPI harness plug between the control and the drive, which is what the manual assumes first.
Inverter drive or front-end control board failed, the expensive end and the minority case.

Check This First

Power cycle once. If Ed01 returns, stop resetting and look.
Does the drive contactor pull in when a cycle starts? No coil voltage points at the output board fuse.
Ohm the drain valve motor. Zero ohms and scorched terminals means it shorted.
Pull the drain valve body and look for coins. On this case there were two.

When To Call

Ed01 returns after a power cycle.
The machine dumps water then errors.
You smell burned insulation at the rear of the machine.

Why not just replace the fuse?

The fuse blew for a reason. With the drain motor unplugged and a new fuse the machine ran perfectly, which proved the valve was the cause. Replace the fuse alone and it blows again on the next drain.
